We at Squeaky Sailor are an adventurous lot, but even we’d rather play armchair explorer than actually visit the Arctic Circle! Imagine navigating the Icy North via wooden ship in the early 1800’s: the sea ice, the starvation, the unrelenting terror of the only man with the gun. Case in point: the ill-fated Franklin expedition...not exactly a picnic. Around 1820 a terrifyingly probable tale emerged out of the first Franklin campaign. Following a series of seriously unfortunate events, it seems one explorer arrived back at a rendezvous point bearing fresh meat but lacking three companions last seen traveling with him. Attempting to count to four while simultaneously noting a very suspicious tinge to the meat, the group rapidly deduced that the “food” he had brought them was actually human flesh, and very likely the remains of (at least) one of his three original companions.
Fair mariner, icy tales of cannibalistic woe are strange stuff to sell soap with, but we hope our stories are not a total wash. If Arctic exploration is the stuff of your daydreams, if you live for the ice, if you row for the floe…then our Arctic Explorer bar is the one for you. With its poppy-studded shivery blast of peppermint and tea tree oil, it’s virtually guaranteed to keep your mind on Old Man Winter while you shower.
